Women’s Health at All Stages of Life

June 5, 2016 12:00 PM

Women’s health needs change throughout their lifetimes and women need healthcare providers who are skilled, compassionate, and non-judgmental. Women face a variety of choices surrounding contraception, pregnancy planning, fertility, childbearing, and the transition to menopause. Sometimes they struggle with conditions such as fibroids, endometriosis, sexually transmitted diseases, or female cancers. At all stages of life they need women’s health experts using the latest diagnostic and treatment techniques to guide them.

Regular gynecological visits are vital to a woman’s health. Each well-woman exam should include:

  • A discussion of overall health and updates to medical history
  • Measurement of weight and blood pressure
  • Pelvic and breast exam
  • PAP smear, fecal occult blood, and other tests as appropriate
  • Recommendations for additional testing as needed, including bone density, mammograms, blood glucose, or thyroid screening.

Women’s lives are filled with changes but their medical care should remain an example of excellence at any stage of life.
