Pulmonary Disease

Pulmonologists diagnose and treat conditions and diseases of the chest and respiratory system. They treat problems including asthma, chronic bronchitis and emphysema (COPD), lung cancer, pneumonia, tuberculosis, and other lung infections. They also evaluate and treat lung and breathing difficulties related to toxic substances. Many pulmonologists have expert training in sleep medicine and sleep related disorders including sleep apnea, insomnia, narcolepsy, and restless leg syndrome.

Pulmonologists often work closely with a patient’s other healthcare providers including primary care physicians and cardiologists to coordinate care.
