Online Pharmacies - Know Your Source

August 5, 2015 01:20 PM

We all like to save money, particularly where medications are concerned. While many of us need them to stay healthy and keep chronic diseases in check, no one wants to pay too much. Online pharmacies have been a true benefit for many people who can’t get out to their local pharmacy or discount store. However, there are a few things to be aware of when dealing with online medication sources. Some websites:

    •    Are not licensed to sell medications in the U.S.
    •    Aren’t really pharmacies at all
    •    Won’t protect your personal information
    •    Sell medications that are counterfeit, have expired, or are not FDA-approved

Make sure that you only use prescription medications prescribed by your own healthcare provider. Online pharmacies that also provide a diagnosis on little to no information can be dangerous to you. The medication they prescribe may not be correct for your condition or could interact with a drug you are already taking.

A safe online pharmacy requires a prescription from your healthcare provider and has a state-licensed pharmacist to answer your questions. Read the site’s privacy and security policies before you sign up to make sure you agree with how they will use your personal information. Stay healthy, stay safe online.
