The good news is that more Americans than ever are making an effort to stay fit. According to the International Health, Racquet and Sports Clubs Association, total US participation in regular exercise is up in many categories. Health club membership rose 19% between 2009 and 2014 to 54 million members nationwide.

From yoga (up 6% to 25.3 million participants) to high impact aerobics (up 9.2% to 19.7 million participants), Americans are hearing the message and taking action for their health. Being healthy demands an active lifestyle. Studies have shown that being sedentary leads not only to weight problems, but worsens chronic conditions including arthritis, diabetes, and heart problems.

Choose an exercise program that suits your style. Try swimming, ballroom dancing, trail running, or anything in between. There’s a sport or program out there that’s right for you. Find a partner to help keep you on track. We’re betting that you already know someone who’s eager to get into an exercise plan and is looking for someone to do it with.
