Fat Burning 101

If you can build muscle in a particular area such as your abs or biceps, then why is it nearly impossible to burn fat in a targeted spot? Let’s say you have some “love handles” that you want to make disappear. Will doing a zillion situps or using an electrical stimulation machine eliminate fat just in a problem area?

Sadly, no.

Fat burning doesn’t work like muscle building. You can’t force your body to burn it off precisely where you want it to. Fad diets such as the soup diet or the grapefruit diet don’t work and are potentially dangerous to your overall health. The best and most effective approach to fat burning is a well-rounded program of clean diet coupled with stamina and resistance training.

It’s also important to remember that you are never too overweight to exercise. Even if you plan to start small, you need your doctor’s advice before you begin, particularly if you take medications, have other medical conditions, or a lot of weight to lose. Let our HackensackUMG healthcare providers be with you at the starting line on your road to good health and a healthy weight.
